Radon is a cancer-causing, radioactive gas that cannot be seen, smelled, or tasted. Many lung cancer deaths are the result of breathing air that is contaminated with radon. The Surgeon General has warned that radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States today. Only smoking causes more lung cancer deaths. Chesaning to host internet safety forum Feb. 12 CHESANING - The Internet offers people of all ages countless opportunities to learn, communicate and socialize, but it also exposes them to risks. The Chesaning Union School District and professionals from the United States Attorney's Office are teaming up to help parents learn ways to keep their children safe from online predators, cyber-bullies and other Internet dangers. The Child Predators: Hidden Dangers on the Internet program will be held on Tuesday, February 12 at 6 p.m. in the Chesaning Middle School media center. The community forum is free and open to the public. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Matthew Roth, Assistant United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan, will address the hidden dangers of the Internet and give parents the tools and information needed to keep their children safe and secure in cyberspace. The forum will provide a valuable opportunity for parents and community members to learn about important issues including child exploitation, prevention and enforcement. Accident investigated ST. CHARLES -- Saginaw County Sheriff's deputies are investigating personal injury accident that occurred in the Village of St. Charles on Thursday morning. Deputies were dispatched to 722 W. Belle Ave. in St. Charles at 6:17 a.m. Investigation revealed that a 23-year-old female from Owosso lost control of her vehicle, went off the road, and struck a house. The driver was transported to a local hospital where she was treated for minor injuries. Both the vehicle and the house sustained substantial damage, deputies said. The incident remains under investigation. Alcohol is suspected as being a factor in the accident, deputies said. |
