Obituaries PUBLISHED:
Formerly of Flushing Age 90, died Friday, January 4, 2008. Lorraine was born in Baldwin, and lived most of her life in Flushing and then retired to Baldwin, where she was active in the Historical Society of Baldwin and Luther. She and her husband traveled to all the states except Hawaii, plus a trip to Germany. Surviving are two children: son, Russell Burkett and wife, Judy, daughter, Lorie Jeanne Holsted and husband, Ernie; nine grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Hattie Bailor. Mrs. Burkett was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Russell M. Burkett, and a son, Richard L. Burkett. Arrangements were entrusted to the Brown Funeral Home, Grand Blanc Chapel.
BUD URBAIN of St. Charles Age 85, passed away Wednesday, December 26, 2007 at home. Bud was born on September 4, 1922 in Brant to Henry and Marjorie (Lester) Urbain. He married Della Mae Stoddard in Henderson on July 20, 1943, and she survives him. Bud was a member of St. Charles United Methodist Church and Tri-Township Fire Department. He served his country during World War II in the U.S Army/Air Force. Bud retired as an area supervisor for H.J. Heinz. He enjoyed playing cards, making Christmas wreaths, gardening and visiting family. Surviving are his wife, Della, and their children, Larry Urbain, of St. Charles, Judy and Gary Mendyk, of St. Charles, Karen and Robert Gregor, of Gaylord, and Rob Urbain, of West Branch; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Arlene Kocur; a brother, Robert and Nell Urbain; and a sister-in-laww, Darlene Urbain. He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Henry, Jr. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 28, 2007 at the Kendall Funeral Home in St. Charles. Rev. Arthur Norris officiated, with burial at Riverside Cemetery.
YVONNE CUNDY of Chesaning Age 69, passed away Tuesday morning, January 8, 2008 at Covenant Medical - Cooper in Saginaw. Yvonne was born on May 26, 1938 in Merrill, the daughter of Archie and Clara (Gulick) Londry. She married Ken Cundy on December 10, 1955, and he survives her. Yvonne attended St. Charles United Methodist Church, serving on various committees and groups. She enjoyed collecting antiques, reading, doing puzzles, music, camping and traveling. Yvonne retired from Community State Bank as a courier. Surviving besides her husband of 52 years, Ken, are their children and spouses, Chris and Dorothy Cundy, Traci and Dan Lilley, Lori and Mike Braiker, Brenda and Albert Ferrell, Lynnette and Damone Chard and Joy and Rick Thiele; 13 grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Donna Dankert; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Meridith, and a sister, Donna. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 11, 2008 at the Kendall Funeral Home, St. Charles. Rev. Dr. Sherry Parker officiated, with burial in Brant Cemetery. Memorials may be made to American Diabetes or Macular Degeneration Foundation.
CLARENCE F. "JIM" WEISENBERGER of Chesaning Age 88, passed away on Sunday morning, January 6, 2008 at the Chesaning Nursing Care Center. He was born on May 27, 1919 in Maple Grove Township to the late Fred and Lena (Gross) Weisenberger. He married Josephine Bila on November 8, 1941, and she survives him. Jim was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, in which we has very active , especially with the K of C Tootsie Roll drive. He loved to play cards, hunt and spend time with his grandchildren. He also served on the Chesaning Township Board of Trustees for 42 years. He was a life-long farmer. Surviving are his wife, Josephine; four children, Gloria (Larry) Clark, of Fremont, Ken (Ellen) Weisenberger, Charles (Linda) Weisenberger and James (Mary Ann) Weisenberger, all of Chesaning; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Kathleen Ducham, of New Lothrop, Pauline Reinhart, of Montrose, and Marie (Adelbert) Thiel, of Chesaning; one brother, Eugene (Marlene) Weisenberger, of New Lothrop. He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant daughters, Diana and Carol Ann; one grandson, William "Billy" Pumford; a brother, Richard; sisters, Delores and Loretta; and brothers-in-law, Robert Glen Ducham and Bill Reinhart. Funeral liturgy was held on Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Todd Arnburg officiated, with burial in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. BURNICE E. TUPPER of Montrose Age 96, passed away Tuesday, January 8, 2008 at the Chesaning Nursing Care Center. Burnice was born in Montrose Township on December 8, 1911, the daughter of the late Daniel and Susie (Feller) Larkin. She had resided in the Montrose area all of her life. Burnice married Lester Tupper on January 17, 1931. He preceded her in death on November 24, 1980. She was employed with Tupper Grocery Store for many years. Burnice was a member of the Montrose Senior Center and the former Brent Creek Birthday Club. Surviving are her daughter, Marsha (Mel) Rice, of New Lothrop; grandchildren, Michelle (Dan) Brown, of Montrose, David Feller, of Sacramento, Calif., Teri (Mike) Worden, of Chesaning, Brook (Craig) Terryah, of Flushing, Heather (Jason) Emerson, of Burton, and Tiffany Rice, of Flint; great-grandchildren, Brandon Brown, Lilynna Feller, Michael Worden, Kayle Terryah, C.J. Terryah, Miranda Stewart and Jenna Emerson; sisters, Elaine (Jack) Talsma and Betty Amboy. Burnice was also preceded in death by her sisters, Marjorie McGinn, Beatrice Adams and Murle Snyder. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 12, 2008 at the O'Guinn Family Funeral Home in Montrose. Rev. Dr. Sherry Parker officiated, with burial at Montrose Township Cemetery. BOB E. SANDEFUR of Brant Age 72, passed away Wednesday morning, January 9, 2008 at Covenant Medical - Harrison in Saginaw. Bob was born on August 29, 2935 in Caroway, Ark. He married Judith Fales on June 14, 1962. She survives him. Bob retired from Willsie Lumber Company of Freeland after 30 years of service. Surviving besides his wife, Judith, are children, Linda Sandefur and Karen Sandefur, of Brant, and Michael and Laura Sandefur, of Houston, Texas; and a grandson, Andrew Sandefur. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service was held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 12, 2008 at Oakley Community Church, 327 S. Main (M-52), Oakley. Pastor Frank Ward officiated. Memorials may be made to the Mid-Michigan Rescue Ministries (CIty Rescue Mission), Oakley Community Church or the charity of the donor's choice.
