JOAN MARIE (McAVOY) POTTER

Age 69, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 15, 2008 after a lengthy and courageous battle of respiratory disease and recent occurrences of pneumonia. Joan was born on January 15, 1939 in New Haven Township, the only daughter of John E. McAvoy and Albina (Yaklin) McAvoy. Joan attended New Haven Center Elementary Schools and was a graduate of St. Paul High School in 1957. On September 30, 1967, Joan married the love of her life, John Wesley Potter, of Midland. Joan and John made their home in Midland where Joan was employed by Dow Corning of Midland. She retired from Dow in the mid-1980s. Joan enjoyed crocheting and there are many family members who own a piece of Joan's beautiful work. Joan's greatest joy was spending time with family and friends and she always loved having a good time.

Joan is survived by brothers, John (Rosalie) McAvoy, of Williamsburg, Allen (Maryann) McAvoy, of Belmont, Richard (Patricia) McAvoy, of Lansing, and Michael (Andrea) McAvoy, of Waterford; 12 nieces and nephews and their families; many cousins; friends and very special friend Shirley Tribfelner. In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her brother, Gerald McAvoy in 1972 and her beloved husband, John, in 1997. This is the greatest birthday gift Joan could ever receive -- being united once again to spend eternity with her adored husband, John.

Funeral services were held Saturday, January 19, 2008 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Owosso. Fr. David Fisher officiated. Arrangements were entrusted to Nelson-House Funeral Home in Owosso. Memorials are suggested to the Huntington's Disease Society of America, 505 Eighth Avenue, Suite 902, New York, NY 10018.
