The Rams closed out the night with a battle against Goodrich, ranked first in Division 3. Picking up victories for the Rams were Brad Boone, Smith, Wray and Jake Freeman.

"We wrestled well against Byron and picked up a lot of bonus points," said Montrose coach Jason Perrin. "Goodrich is just tough as nails this year. They have a group of wrestlers who have been together for some time now and they work extremely hard."

Perrin added, "They are probably the favorite to win it this year. We didn't wrestle them with enough of a sense of urgency and against a great team like that, you really need to be aggressive."

On Saturday, the Rams took part in the prestigious Michigan Duals at Bay City Western and finished 4-1 on the day.

Montrose opened up with a 42-29 loss Dundee, ranked second in Division 3. The Rams then defeated Clarkston, ranked sixth in Division 1, by a score of 37-32. The Rams closed out their pool action with a 35-33 win over Linden.

Going 5-0 for the Rams was Corey Madden, while Greg Martin, Cody Wray, Brad Boone and Marvin Boswell were all 4-1.

"This is the toughest team tournament in the state," Coach Perrin said. "Sixteen teams competed, and I belive 13 of them were ranked in the top 10 in their respective divisions. We wrestled really well and I think we surprised some teams today. I was very proud of our effort and the way the guys responded to an extremely long day of excellent competition."

"Corey Madden wrestled outstanding today and is starting to gain a lot of confidence," Perrin added. "Greg Martin stepped in and had a big day for us at 119 lbs. as well."
