JOHN POCHYLY

Age 94, passed away on Saturday evening, March 1, 2008 at the Memorial Healthcare Center, Owosso. He was born on April 15, 1913 in Czechoslovakia, the son of Frank and Anna (Ruchka) Pochyly. He married Josephine Yanko on November 24, 1938, and she preceded him in death in April, 2006. John had worked at Buick in Flint for 36 years and was a tool grinder and a member of Local 599. John loved to hunt and fish and spent a lot of years at Higgins Lake. John was a self-taught carpenter and loved to work with wood. He built his house and also houses for his two daughters. He also did a lot of remodeling for his family. He loved Czech music and playing his button box accordion. He was an avid Detroit Tigers baseball fan. John graduated from Montrose High School in 1932. He enjoyed attending senior citizens in New Lothrop. John was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Owosso, the ZCBJ Lodge 242 and CSA Lodge 411 in Easton.

He is survived by his two daughters, Joan (Jim) Yaklin and Barbara (Beryl) Schaar, both of New Lothrop; and five grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren whom he dearly enjoyed spending time with. He was predeceased by his wife, his parents, a brother, Frank, and an infant sister, Julia.

Funeral liturgy was held on Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Owosso. Rev. Fr. David Fisher officiated, with burial in Elmwood Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to the Whelpley-Martin Funeral Hoome, New Lothrop. www.Wmartinfuneralhome.com.

ELEANOR "ELLIE" VanWAGNER

of Chesaning

Age 87, passed away on Sunday morning, March 2, 2008 at the Oliver Woods Retirement Village, Owosso. Eleanor I. Palmer was born on September 20, 1920 in Fremont Township, the daughter of Alfred and Avena (Schmeige) Palmer. She graduated from Chesaning Union High School in 1939. She married Gerald (Bus) VanWagner on September 20, 1941. He preceded her in death in 1976. She worked for many years for Dr. Walter Buzzard. She was employed by Drs. Teal and Hopfensperger for many years as well. In addition, she worked for the Secretary of State in Lansing. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Friends of the Library, Chesaning Area Historical Society and American Legion Auxiliary (past president). Ellie was a volunteer for the READ program at Big Rock Elementary School. She was a strong supporter of quality education and was a very avid Michigan State University fan.

She is survived by her son, Roger (Cathy) VanWagner, of Saginaw; two daughters, Suzanne, of Angola, Ind. and Christine (Larry) Nix, of Grand Rapids; one grandson, Brian Nix, of Grand Rapids; two adopted granddaughters, Jessica Westman, of Manassas, Va., and Julie Teal, of Chesaning; three sisters, Virginia Schofner, of Clearwater, Fla., Edna Schlotter, of Haslett, and Laura Lawrence, of Frankenmuth; one sister-in-law, Hazel Palmer, of Chesaning. She was predeceased by her husband and four brothers, Les, Ken, Louis and Max, and one sister, Marie.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, March 6, 2008, at the Trinity United Methodist Church, Chesaning. Rev. Dr. Sherry Parker officiated, with burial in Wildwood Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Multiple Sclerosis society or the charity of the donor's choice. www.Wmartinfuneralhome.com.

MARY A. HANEY

of Chesaning

Age 86, passed away March 1, 2008 at the Chesaning Nursing Care Center. She was born on September 20, 1921, the daughter of George and Mary (Hanic) Kocur. She married Lloyd E. Haney on January 25, 1947. He passed away on October 11, 1995. Mary enjoyed gardening and listening to polka music.

Surviving are two daughters and their spouses, Diane and Stanley Nowosatko, of Oakley, and Bonnie and David Kemppainen, of Chesaning; four grandchildren, Brian Nowosatko, Shelley VanOoteghem and Jonathon and Justin Kemppainen; four great-grandchildren, Joseph, Hannah, Amanda and Katilyn Van Oofeghem; and one brother and spouse, Steve (Arlene) Kocur. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Helen Slezak; four brothers, John, Frank, Joseph and Charles; and one grandson, Michael Nowosatko.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at 1 p.m. at the Misiuk Funeral Home, Chesaning. Burial was at Brant Cemetery. www.misiukfuneralhome.com.

DONALD J. REHMANN

of Chesaning

Age 85, passed away Thursday, February 28, 2008 at Caretel Inns of Tri-Cities. He was born on October 6, 1922 in Chesaning, the son of Edmund and Eva (Fox) Rehmann. He was a former co-owner of Ed Rehmann and Sons Clothing Store in Chesaning. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was very active in Chesaning community service. He had been in the Chesaning Rotary Club, serving as a president, and was a Paul Harris Fellow in Rotary. He had been on the Chesaning council, and had been a member of the Knights of Columbus. He had been Showboat Grand Marshal.

He is survived by his wife, Alberta "Babe" (Kuczman) Rehmann; his two sons, Steve Rehmann, of East Tawas, and Bill (Heidi) Rehmann, of Bay City; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; his brother and sister-in-law, Albert and Beth Rehmann, of Chesaning; sister-in-law, Betty Rehmann, of Chesaning; and many nieces and nephews. Those who have passed away include his parents; his brother, Rich Rehmann; and his sister, Helen Petrulis, and brother-in-law, Charles Petrulis.

Funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday, March 3, 2008 at 11 a.m. to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Chesaning. Rev. Fr. Richard Bokinskie officiated, with burial at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Chesaning. Arrangements were entrusted to the Misiuk Funeral Home. www.misiukfuneralhome.com.

HELEN IRENE THIEL

of Chesaning

Age 94, passed away Friday, February 29, 2008 at Oliver Woods Retirement Village in Owosso. Helen was born on June 19, 1913 in Chesaning Township, the daughter of Clarence and Margaret (Richter) Frink. She graduated from Chesaning High School in 1932. She married Robert J. Thiel on June 23, 1938, and he preceded her in death. Mrs. Thiel was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Chesaning. Mrs. Thiel was a homemaker and also had been employed for many years with the U.S. Postal Service in Chesaning.

She is survived by her son, David R. (Barbara) Thiel, of Davison; daughters, Mary Ann (Richard) Krzciok, of Grand Rapids, and Martha (Richard) Matthews, of Hilton Head, S.C.; brother, Elmore (VIrginia) Frink, of Owosso; grandchildren, Michael (Joan) Krzciok, of Grand Rapids, Tom Krzciok and Lori Krzciok, of Grand Rapids, Kris (Laurie) Thiel, fo Davison, Erich (Juliette) Thiel, of Davison; and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert; parents, Clarence and Margaret Frink; brother, Howard Frink; sister, Merle Crofoot; and granddaughter, Lisa Krzciok.

Cremation has taken place. A family memorial service will be held in the spring. The family would like to thank the staff at Oliver Woods, Carol, Diane, Donna and Roberta for their loving care. SYLVESTER J. McNIEL

of Montrose

Age 90, passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at Hurley Medical Center in Flint. Sylvester was born on August 23, 1917 in Clio, to the late George and Mary (Phillip) McNiel. He had resided in the Montrose area most of his life. He was an U.S. Army veteran, serving in World War II. Sylvester married Helen Whitman on October 13, 1927. She preceded him in death on March 10, 1986. He then married Hazel Summers on October 11, 1987. She preceded him in death on January 15, 2003. He was employed with Buick for 33 years before retiring. He was a member of the Montrose Eagles.

He is survived by his children, Robert (Georgia) McNiel, of Mesick, Mary (Robert) Palmquist, of New Lothrop, Bernard (Mary) McNiel, fo Montrose; 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Sylvester was also preceded in death by his seven brothers , one sister and grandson, Bernard McNiel II.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 8, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the O'Guinn Family Funeral Home in Montrose. Rev. Wayne Ferrigan officiated, wtih burial at Montrose Township Cemetery. BETTY E. ROSENCRANS

of Chesaning

Age 74, passed away Monday evening, March 3, 2008 at Rosegardens Assisted Living, Owosso. She was born on August 11, 1933 in Bay City, the daughter of Oscar and Nellie Reiss. She graduated from Central Michigan University and was retired from Chesaning schools. She had taught third and fifth grades at Brady Elementary and Chesaning Middle School. She loved to quilt and belonged to the "Scrap Baggers" club. Her husband, Ray Rosencrans, passed away on November 3, 2007.

Those left to mourn her include her children, Rosemary Couture, of Bay City, Kathy Wiles, of Chesaning, Donna (Dean) Bohn, of Chesaning, and Tim Rosencrans, of Chesaning; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; her sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Jim Jablonski, of Tawas; sister-in-law, Marie Reiss, of Freeland; and many nieces and nephews. Those who have passed away include her parents, brother Robert Reiss and infant brothers and sister, Richard, Rosemary, Oscar and William.

Funeral services were held on Friday, March 7, 2008 at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Chesaning, at 11 a.m. Pastor Joel W. Thomford officiated, with burial at Wildwood Cemetery, Chesaning. SHIRLEY ANN BROCK

of Chesaning

Age 64, passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at the Memorial Healthcare Center, Owosso. Shirley Ann Fath was born on January 22, 1944 in Flint, the daughter of Matthew and Bertha (Wendell) Fath. She married Leonard "Chuck" Brock on October 29, 1960, and he survives her. She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church.

She is survived by her husband, Leonard "Chuck" Brock; two children, Selina (Tom) Watts, of Clinton Township, and Charles Brock, of Montpelier, Ohio; six grandchildren, Courtney and Nick Watts, William and Crystal Brock, and Christopher and Mellissa Maquire; three great-grandchildren; and brothers and sisters, Larry (Linda) Fath, Mary (Raymond) Ostrander, Charlotte (Tom) Hines, Donald Fath, Frank (Bobby) Fath, Paul (Bea) Fath, and Caroline Fath.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at the Walker-Martin Funeral Home, Chesaning. Rev. Fr. Richard Bokinskie will officiate. DALLAS C. WHEELER

of Hemlock

God's finger touched Dallas on Thursday, March 6, 2008 at the age of 69 and he slipped away from Earth's dark shadows to a brighter day. Dallas C. Wheeler was born on June 30, 1938 in Bay City, the son of Evelyn (Bonneau) and the late Charles Wheeler. Dallas worked for General Motors Malleable Iron for 37 years, retiring in 1994. He married Margaret Osinski on February 10, 1959, and she survives him. Dallas was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, and had served in the U.S. Army.

Surviving besides his wife, Margaret, are six children, Margaret (Randy) Dixon, of Phoenix, Ariz., Joseph (Maria) Wheeler, of Phoenix, Ariz., Chris (Eileen) Wheeler, of New Lothrop, Michael (Lisa) Wheeler, of New Lothrop, Julia (Rick) Stewart, of Merrill, and Noreen (Troy) Kulhanek, of Hemlock; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two sisters, Shirley (Jerry) Louchart, and Sharon (Lou) Littlejohn; two brothers, Daniel Wheeler and Tim (Heidi) Wheeler; two sisters-in-law, Frances Rios and Eva Wheeler; three brothers-in-law, Al Osinski, Dave Osinski and Steve Osinski; and many nieces and nephews. Dallas was also predeceased by a son, Dallas, Jr., and three brothers, Jim, Ernest and Larry.

Funeral services will take place at noon on Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Hemlock. Rev. Fr. Craig Albrecht and Sr. Mary Garascia CPPS will officiate, with committal in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call at the W.L. Case & Co.
