Hornet trio reigns in D-4 wrestling



AUBURN HILLS - Three New Lothrop wrestlers capped the 2007 campaign by claiming individual state championships at the MHSAA state finals held last weekend at the Palace of Auburn Hills.

Senior cousins Dennis and Roger Emmendorfer won at 171 and 215 respectively sophomore Allen Krupp captured the 112-pound crown.

Dennis Emmendorfer finished the season with a 40-6 mark after topping Addison's Chet Green 6-4 for the 171-pound title. Roger Emmendorfer steamrolled his way to the 215 championship pinning Manchester's Dan Lobbestael 2:48 into their title bout. He won all four of his matches to finish with a stellar 51-3 overall record. His wins included another pin, a 17-2 technical fall victory and a 15-4 major decision win.

Krupp capped a 50-9 campaign with a 9-7 title win over Dan Osterman of Carson City-Crystal in the finals at 112. He recorded a pair of pins and a 12-2 semifinals major decision victory over Chris Deneau of Athens.

Hornet freshman Blake Birchmeier finished third at 103 with a 9-0 major decision win over Dakota Talbot of Sanford-Meridan in the consolation finals. He reached that match with a 2-0 overtime victory over TJ Sobeck of Rogers City. Birchmeier was 4-1 in the tourney and finished the year with a sparkling 53-12 record.

•Chesaning's Chad Reiber became a 3-time all-stater with his fourth place finish at 125 pounds in Division 3. Reiber won his first two matches before losing to Lance Pitcel of Richmond 14-6. He came back to win 11-4 over Nick Bogue of Central Montcalm before bowing in a thrill-packed overtime consolation finals match to Andrew Schutt of Yale.
