Unbeaten Hornet cagers regional bound



BRECKENRIDGE - New Lothrop's unbeaten, No. 2 ranked Hornet cagers advanced to the Class C regional Wednesday in Laingsburg against Bath (15-6) after subduing a gritty St. Charles team to win the district title, 66-51, at Breckenridge High School last Saturday. Wednesday;s game is set for 7:00 p.m.

Joe Corkran's Hornets won their first district title since 2000 when they claimed a Class D championship. Their 23rd victory of the season over the upstart Bulldogs (4-18) moved them within a win of the all-time record of 24 wins set by the 1984 Hornet squad that reached the Class C quarterfinals. That team finished 24-2. This team has its sights set on another trip to the quarters. A win over the Bees on Wednesday would earn the Hornets a berth in Friday night's regional finals against the winner of Tuesdsay's Olivet (15-7) versus Flint Beecher (18-5) regional match-up.

The regional title came is set for 7:00 p.m. Friday night at Laingsburg High School.
