Montrose schools host Area 13 Special Olympics



Athletes from five schools in Genesee and Lapeer Counties competed at the Area 13 Special Olympics swim meet held Wednesday at the Montrose Community Schools' pool facility. MONTROSE - The Montrose Community Schools' pool facility was filled with a deafening sound Wednesday as students cheered on their teammates during the Area 13 (Genesee-Lapeer Counties), Special Olympics.

Athletes from five schools that included Montrose, Lapeer County, Kearsley, EKLC, and GO competed in nine different events that were broken down into age and time categories.

Events included the 25 freestyle (one pool length), 50 freestyle (two pool lengths), 100 freestyle (four pool lengths), 25 backstroke, 50 backstroke, 25 breaststroke, 50 breaststroke, floatation freestyle, and developmental backstroke.

Montrose competitors included; 25 Freestyle, Joseph Parks, Nathan Lutze, Quintin Wilber, Alex Smith, Robert Wooley, Joey White, Jeremy Churchill, Michael Hect, Conner Young, Tara Lincoln, Hannah Sims, Nicole Read, Tailor McClelland, Candace Churchill, Amber Lantto, Kaylee Pagel, and Anna Young; Floatation Freestyle, Kaylee Bartholemew, Kara Thomas, David Lantto, Dacoda Powell, Mariah Saenz, Alex Ogden, Matt Wright Sears, and David Morris; 25 Backstroke, Joe Parks, Quitin Wilber, Alex Smith, Robert Wooley, Joey White, Jeremy Churchill, Conner Young, Tailor McClelland, Candace Churchill, Kaylee Pagel, Amber Lantto, Nicole Read, Tara Lincoln, Hannah Sims, and Anna Young; Developmental Backstroke, Kara Thomas, Michael Hect, and David Lantto; 50 Freestyle, RJ Payne, Quintin Wilber, Joe Parks, Nathan Lutze, Tara Lincoln, Hannah Sims, Amandia Southard, Nicole Read, Tailor McClelland, Kristi Burner, and Andrea Walker; 50 Backstroke, RJ Payne, Nathan Lutze, Robert Wooley, Kristi Burner, Amandia Southard, Andrea Walker, and Candace Churchill; 100 Freestyle, RJ Payne, Kristi Burner, Amandia Southard, and Andrea Walker.

All participating athletes were awarded ribbons bases on their times.
