"I am very honored to receive this honor, but it isn't just my award," said Emmendorfer. "All the hours put in by our entire coaching staff and the countless others who have quietly worked behind the scenes contributed greatly to our success. And, of course, the unselfishness and commitment by each of our players was the main key to our dream season." While Emmendorfer is quick to acknowledge the roles of others in New Lothrop's elite program, there is no denying what the head coach has accomplished in his four years at the helm for the Hornets. The Montrose graduate took over the reins of the NL football program in 2003 and immediately guided the Hornets to an unbeaten 9-0 regular season and a first-round play-off victory. In 2004, NL finished at 7-3, once again qualifying for the state play-offs and in 2005, the Hornets laid the groundwork for their 2006 run by reaching the regional finals before losing to Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes. In four years, Emmendorfer has led his team to four conference championships, three district titles, a regional crown and a state championship. His overall record is 40-8. And now, his fellow coaches have recognized him by naming him 2006 Division 8 Coach of the Year.
