Chesaning drops opening softball twinbill to 'Muth

FRANKENMUTH - A disastrous second inning opened the door for a solid Frankenmuth squad as the host Eagles went on to sweep Chesaning last Tuesday, 10-0 and 18-2.

The doubleheader marked the first action of the season for first-year coach Devon Burzynski and her Indians while Frankenmuth had already split a twinbill against Powers Catholic earlier.

"We were stiff for the first game of the season and we made some physical errors," commented Burzynski. "Our bats were a little slow in the first game, but our hitting started to come to life in the second contest."

Frankenmuth's Abby Rodammer had a lot to do with the Tribe's struggles at the plate, as the senior hurler allowed just three hits and no walks while striking out 10 Indians in the opening game. Lindsay Harmon had two of those hits while Cassie Harris tallied the other safety. The Eagles scored nine times in the bottom of the second to put the game out of reach.

In Game Two, Harmon ripped three hits and scored twice as Chesaning's bats came to life with nine hits. Jill Hunt and Amanda Mort each recorded a pair of hits for the Indians. Frankenmuth scored in every inning, however, to invoke the five-inning mercy rule.

Chesaning's loss to the TVC-East Eagles does not count in the league standings. The TVC-Central Indians were scheduled to play another crossover contest (not counted in league standings) at TVC-West foe Ithaca last Thursday, weather permitting.
