Neumann says farewell

Retiring St. Charles Village Manager Kris Neumann was sent off in style with an Open House held a week ago Friday at the village office.

Neumann, who guided the village superbly for 13 years as manager after serving three separate stints and interim manager. The St. Charles native joined the village staff as a part-time ambulance billing clerk in 1975. Over the years she also worked as a payroll clerk, receptionist and housing program administrator in addition to serving as interim manager during vacancies.

Village president Ray Cornford said Neumann's final council session (April 11) stirred mixed emotions.

"I am happy for her and Bill (Neumann's husband), but we're very sad that she's leaving. She promises me she's left every phone number she has. Kris has been our fearless leader for 13 years."

Neumann announced her retirement last December. Her final day was Friday, April 13.

During the open house Neumann received numerous gifts including a number of lighthouses (one of her passions) and other items for the couples cottage. She even received a gift from Saginaw-based Spicer Engineering, appropriately wrapped in a map of the Village of St. Charles. She is seen here with her granddaughters Kendall and Addison Pahl.
