Mason struck out 13 and allowed just four hits while collecting three hits of her own in the opener. Rachel Lichon and Sara Mead also recorded three hits apiece for the 'Dawgs while Lexy Burch and Jade Tribfelner had a pair of hits apiece.

Ashley Oliver and Lindsay Harmon each had RBI hits for the Indians, who were only able to score single runs in the second and sixth innings. Meanwhile, St. Charles scored twice in the first, fourth and seventh innings and added single runs in the third and sixth.

"Sammi pitched a nice ballgame and was in control the whole time out on the mound," assessed 'Dawg mentor Todd Halcomb. "It was nice to get a win after a poor showing against Swan Valley on Monday."

Sara Mead spun a five-hitter in the nightcap and the 'Dawgs pounded out 11 hits to post the 8-2 win. Mead helped her own cause by recording three hits and two RBI's. Toni Madden counted a seventh-inning home run, the first of her varsity career, among her three hits while Burch contributed a pair of hits and a stolen base to the offensive assault.

Amanda Mort and Megan Buck each had two hits for the Indians, who played the 'Dawgs to a 2-2 tie before yielding three runs in the fourth. The Indians hurt themselves by committing five errors in the nightcap.

"In the first game, we chased a lot of pitches at the plate. Mason has nice movement on the ball, which kept us off balance," Indian head coach Devon Burzynski commented. "We hit better in the second game, but had a lot of line drives that were caught."

The pair of wins improve St. Charles' record to 6-2 on the season while the Indians drop to 4-4 overall.
