TTAseeks assessment increase from Hazelton, Maple Grove residents

NEW LOTHROP - Like everyone else, area ambulance companies have been affected by rising fuel costs and other expenses. That's why Twin Township Ambulance is asking residents of Hazelton and Maple Grove Townships to approve a $50 per household special assessment in the Tuesday, May 6 election.

"The reason for the rate increase is tied to fuel costs," explained Carolyn Birchmeier, TTAbusiness manager. She also cited increased equipments costs and insurance cuts. When the New Lothrop area ambulance opened its doors in 1978, memberships were handled on a voluntary basis.

Then nine years ago, TTA asked Maple Grove and Hazelton Township residents to approve a $25 per year, per household special assessment.

This year, the ambulance service is seeking a $50 special assessment per household, per year for the next six years from those township residents.

"We need their support," Birchmeier said. "We would like to continue to serve our community."

TTA is also asking for voluntary memberships from residents in Albee, Flushing and Montrose Townships in areas served by the service.

For the May 6 election, registered voters in Hazelton Township will be voting at the New Lothrop Schools, while Maple Grove residents will be voting at the Maple Grove Township Hall.
