Walter was born in Maple Grove Township on July 28, 1926, the son of the late Sylvester and Margaret Gengler. Walter was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy.

Mr. Gengler retired from General Motors and was a member of UAW Local #598.

He is survived by his four children, Pamela Gengler, Denise Vescovi, Linda and husband Joe Ruhlig, and Gary and wife Billie Gengler; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, and son, Larry.

Funeral Mass was celebrated at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 17, 2008 at Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 6340 Roberta, Burton. Rev. Joseph S. Kim officiated. In accordance with Walter's wishes, wishes, cremation took place following the Mass. Arrangements were entrusted to the Swartz Funeral Home, Flint.
