DORIS I. "DORIE" KITCHELL of Chesaning



Age 84, passed away on Sunday morning, April 20, 2008 at the Memorial Healthcare Center, Owosso. Doris I.

Meredith was born on January 11, 1924 in Flint, the daughter of Earl & Effie (Cline) Meredith.

She married Robert Hender-- shott in 1943. She later married Zelwyn "Doug" Kitchell on June 4, l976, and he survives her. Dorie graduated from Flint Central High School in 1941.

She retired from the Flint Board of Education as the McLaren Hospital pubic librarian. She started out as the Civic Park Library librarian. She did book talks and preschool story hour and was involved in the Chesaning Schools grandparents reading program. Dorie was instrumental in developing the "I Can Cope" program at McLaren Hospital. She attended and was active in the Trinity United Methodist Church. She formerly served on the Episcopal Church Altar Guild.

She had been a member of the Chesaning Historical Society, Chesaning Lioness Club and Chesaning Showboat makeup committee. Dorie enjoyed needle point, reading books and golfing. She especially enjoyed being with her family.

Surviving are her husband, Doug; one daughter, Diane (Hendershott) and James McNamara of Flushing; three grandchildren, Matthew (Jennifer) McNamara of Mentone, CA, Christopher (Breanna) McNamara of Flushing, Katherine "Katie" McNamara of Flushing; greatgrandchildren, Kailey, Meghan, Courtney, Julie and Molly; one sister, Donelda Jean Stoppert of Swartz Creek and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother, Wayne (Virginia) Meredith, and brother-in-law, Guy Hugh Stoppert.

Funeral services were held at 1p.m. on Wednesday, April 23, 2008 at Trinity United Methodist Church, Chesaning. Rev. Dr. Sherry Parker officiated, with burial in Wildwood Cemetery.
