Beach Boys, Oak Ridge Boys, Hinder on tap for Showboat 2007

Old favorites, new sounds fill diverse line-up

CHESANING - Showboat organizers have remained true to their promise to offer "something for everyone," in this year's musical festival line-up. The final three acts of the 2007 concert schedule have been announced, with two legendary bands slated for Monday and Wednesday, and some of the hottest bands on the rock charts today capping off the weeklong festival on Saturday.

On Monday, July 9, the Beach Boys will perform, with Showboat favorites The Oak Ridge Boys taking the spotlight on Wednesday, July 11. Planners hope a new generation of Showboat audiences will pack the amphitheater on Saturday, July 14 when Hinder, Buckcherry and Papa Roach bring a new flavor to the 66-year festival.

The Beach Boys: Good Vibrations

You can capsulize most pop music acts by reciting how many hits they've had and how many millions of albums they've sold. But these conventional measurements fall short when you're assessing the impact of The Beach Boys. To be sure, this band has birthed a torrent of hit singles and sold albums by the tens of millions. But its greater significance lies in the fact that it changed the musical landscape so profoundly that every pop act since has been in its debt. Happily for us all, The Beach Boys continue to create and perform with the same bold imagination and style that marked their explosive debut 40 years ago. Captained by founding member Mike Love, The Beach Boys play an astoundingly busy schedule of concerts. Beach Boy veteran Bruce Johnston (vocals/keyboards), Mike Kowalski (drums), Randell Kirsch (guitar/vocals), Chris Farmer (bass/vocals), Tim Bonhomme (keyboards/vocals), John Cowsill of The Cowsills (keyboards/vocals/percussion) and Scott Totten (guitar/vocals) round out the band.

The Oak Ridge Boys: Back and Better Than Ever

Theirs is one of the most distinctive and recognizable sounds in the music industry. The four-part harmonies and upbeat songs of The Oak Ridge Boys have spawned dozens of country hits and a #1 pop smash, earned them Grammy, Dove, CMA and ACM awards and garnered a host of other industry and fan accolades. Every time they step before an audience, the Oaks bring 15 years of hits and 50 years of tradition to bear on a stage show widely acknowledged as among the most exciting anywhere. Their string of hits includes the pop chart-topper Elvira, as well as Bobbie Sue, Dream On, Thank God For Kids, American Made, I Guess It Never Hurts To Hurt Sometimes, Fancy Free, Gonna Take A Lot Of River and countless others. They've scored ten gold, three platinum and one double platinum album, one double platinum single, and had more than a dozen national #1 singles. The group's high-energy stage show remains the heart and soul of what they do, and they refine it several times a year, striving to keep it fresh well into the future

The performers join the previously announced concert schedule featuring Christian music superstar Michael W. Smith on Tuesday, July 10; classic rockers .38 Special and Edgar Winter on Thursday, July 12; and the golden sounds of The Spinners, Felix Cavaliere's Rascals and The Diamonds on Friday, July 13.

Hinder, Buckcherry and Papa Roach: A New Era of Showboat Music

Oklahoma City quintet Hinder broke onto the music scene in 2004 after recording the band's self-released demo, Far From Close. They were noticed and signed by Universal Republic Records. In September 2005, they released their debut album, Extreme Behavior, which went gold in less than a year.

Extreme Behavior's second single "Lips of an Angel," reached the Top Ten on the Billboard Hot 100 Pop Singles Chart and Top Five on the Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks Chart. Their latest single is called "How Long." Members of the band are Austin Winkler (vocals), Joe Garvey (guitar), Mark king (guitar) Mike Rodden (bass) and Cody Hanson (drums).

The members of Buckcherry have a Grammy-nominated hit single under their belts and a gold-certified release, 15, which debuted at number two on the Independent Album Chart in April 2006. Formed in Los Angeles in 1995, Buckcherry broke on to the national scene in 1999 with the release of their self-titled debut album. The critically acclaimed set scored such rock hits as "Check Your Head" and "For the Movies."

In the summer of 2001, the group released Time Bomb, which was followed by a stint opening for AC/DC. Buckcherry is Josh Todd (vocals), Keith Nelson (guitar), Jimmy Ashhurst (bass), Stevie D. (guitar) and Xavier Muriel (drums).

Papa Roach is enjoying critical and fan acclaim for The Paramour Sessions, the group's fifth full-length release of the past decade, and their second for Geffen Records. Also known for their platinum-selling Getting Away With Murder, Papa Roach has already sold more than 10 million albums worldwide. Popular tunes include "To Be Loved" and "Last Resort." The band includes Jacoby Shaddix (vocals), Jerry Horton (guitar), Tobin Esperance (bass) and Dave Buckner (drums).

There are four levels of ticket prices for each show, and all seating is reserved.

For the first time ever, a limited number of multiple day passes, including a reserved seat to each concert, will be offered to ticket buyers. Six-day passes are available at the Chesaning Chamber of Commerce office.
