On Saturday, the TVC-West Lady Bulldogs traveled to Millington where they trounced TVC-Central foe Ovid-Elsie, 11-2, and followed with a tight 4-3 comeback win against TVC-East rival Millington.

Sammi Mason spun a one-hit gem against O-E, striking out nine and walking just one in the process. The 'Dawgs scored five times in the top of the second inning and coasted to victory from there. Felicia Reinke and Lexy Burch paced the 13-hit attack with three hits apiece while Rachel Lichon, Sara Mead and Tiffany Reinke chipped in with two hits each.

Mason had two hits, including the game-winning RBI single in the top of the fifth to help St. Charles overtake Millington. Mason also had three steals. Lichon registered a pair of hits, two stolen bases and scored a run for Todd Halcomb's crew. Mead picked up the win, scattering six hits while striking out four.

"We fought back and manufactured runs and did what it took to win a one-run game," said Coach Halcomb in reference to the Millington victory. "We're still trying to put a complete overall game together and we are still striving towards that goal. Nonetheless, it was a nice victory."

St. Charles outhit visiting Birch Run, 8 to 5, but the 'Dawgs committed four costly errors and stranded too many runners while losing an eight-inning 4-3 decision to the visiting Panthers.

Mason sparkled on the mound, striking out a dozen batters while walking four. Lichon, Mead and Jordan Mishler each had a pair of hits for St. Charles.

In the second game, Lichon and Mason each had two of the team's seven hits. Mason counted a double and two RBI's among her contributions, but Birch Run scored three times in the fourth and four in the fifth to capture the 8-3 victory.

"We gave our opponent too many extra outs with our errors," concluded Halcomb. "We need to do a better job of not dwelling on a mistake and move on to the next play. Give Birch Run credit, they took advantage and capitalized as good teams do."

St. Charles' record now stands at 8-4 overall.
