WALTER O. YAKLIN of Maple Grove



Passed away in Tucson, Ariz. on Wednesday, April 16, 2008. He was born in Flint and resided in Maple Grove. Walt retired from Buick in 1993. He served as a Marine during the Korean War. He belonged to the Knights of Columbus, Eagles and the VFW in New Lothrop. Walt was one of the co-founders of the Maple Grove Fire Department. He was a volunteer fire fighter and started the Little League. Walt enjoyed playing golf, and being with friends and family. He lived by one motto and one motto alone -"have tape measure, will travel."

He is survived by his wife, MaryAnn, "little one"; son, Greg and his cat, "fat cat," of Colorado; daughter, Debra, of Iowa; and grandchildren, Tara and Zach, of Florida; his sisters, Marion James, Leanor Theil, Florence Blumke, Margaret Conley and Lucielle Hughes. He was preceded in death by two sons, Brian and Ron; his parents, Henry and Loretta; brother, Arnold; and sisters, Irene, Joann and Donna.

Memorial Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, April 23, 2008 at 11 a.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church of Maple Grove. Father Randy Kelly officiated. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Maple Grove volunteer fire department.
