Bigger, better Beautification Day in St. Charles May 18

ST. CHARLES - A St. Charles tradition will get even bigger and better this year, as high school students and community volunteers come together for the 33rd Annual Beautification Day on May 18.

Throughout the day, students, staff and community members work side by side on landscaping and clean-up projects throughout the village, parks and school grounds.

Thanks to a new initiative, The St. Charles Greenhouse Project, 13 master gardeners from Michigan State University Extension Services will join the beautification efforts. They will be introduced to students before the workday begins, before groups head out to their work sites.

This year's design plan will follow a rain garden theme with purple and yellow hues.

Organizers are hoping the community will support the project through both ideas and contributions. Suggestions and donations can be mailed to Beautification Day, St. Charles High School, 881 W. Walnut Street, St. Charles, MI 48655.

Last year, the high school received a plaque honoring their efforts and a lifetime membership in Keep America Beautiful, Inc., which annually recognizes community and private programs that contribute to the beautification of the state.
