Ryan Humpert allowed just four hits, but surrendered four walks in taking the 5-1 loss in St. Charles' opening contest against MLS. Humpert helped himself with a pair of hits and stole three bases in the process.

The Bulldogs bounced back in the second game, riding the strong arm of Dugan Roosa, who twirled a three-hitter. Brian Halas had two hits and an RBI while Roosa and Ryan Humpert each collected a single, double and two ribbies in the 8-3 win.

The Bulldogs ran roughshod over Merrill on Thursday, pounding out a pair of mercy wins, 23-2 and 13-1. Halas, Humpert and Spencer Davenport notched three hits apiece, with Halas knocking in five runs in the first game. Kyle O'Bryan allowed no hits in two innings of work as the game was shortened to just four frames before the mercy rule was invoked.

Roosa only had to pitch five innings in the finale, scattering four hits while striking out eight and walking three. Humpert and Cole Binder each had two hits for the Bulldogs as they coasted to another mercy-shortened win.

The Bulldogs now stand at 3-1 in the TVC and at 7-8 overall.
