Sports PUBLISHED:
"Byron has a strong team. They are in the finals of the Greater Flint tournament and they won the GAC-Blue Division, so they are certainly a worthy opponent," explained Coach Mishler. Seth Hursh went the distance in the opener, striking out a dozen Eagles while yielding six hits and five walks. The Rams trailed, 4-2, before rallying for a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth. Ply's one-out double in the eighth set up Reinhardt's heroics. Ply had a single and a double in the contest while Hursh helped his own cause with a pair of hits and two runs scored. Byron broke open a tight battle in the nightcap when the Eagles capitalized on five Ram errors in the bottom of the fifth to score seven times. Montrose trailed just 4-3 before the roof caved in and the Eagles walked away with an 11-3 victory. Dan Kagey had two of the four Ram hits. The Rams pounded out a pair of mercy-shortened wins over visiting Hamady on Wednesday, sweeping the Hawks by scores of 16-1 and 18-1. Reinhardt was the winning pitcher in the opener, striking out six, while Jon Hall tossed a three-inning no-hitter in the nightcap, striking out three Hawks along the way. Zach Kuzniar collected four hits and scored five times on the day. Cody Groulx belted a home run, stroked a single and scored four runs during the doubleheader. Montrose is currently 17-12 overall and stands at 11-4 in the GAC.
