On Friday night, there will be a special pipe ceremony, followed by the grand entry at 7 p.m. Grand entries on Saturday will be at 1 and 6 p.m. Enjoy a walk through traditional trader booths and indulge in a piece of traditional fry bread or other traditional foods. There will be traditional teachings, drum demonstrations and dance demonstrations throughout the day on Saturday. There will also be a make-and-take traditional craft activity. The Chi-Asin (Chesaning) Pow Wow is held at Showboat Park on land that originally belonged to the Chippewa People. The area long the Shiawassee River was inhabited by the Chippewa for generations before the US government divided the Saginaw Valley into several reservations. Admission is $3 for adults, $2 for children ages 12 and under. Gates will open at 4 p.m. on Friday, and 11 a.m. on Saturday. Camping is available in Showboat Park as well. The traditional Pow Wow is sponsored by the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe, 1-800-884-6271, and the Chesaning Area Chamber of Commerce, 1-800-255-3055. |
