Tribe gals fall to Hemlock in softball regionals

MONTROSE - Chesaning's varsity softball team fell behind early and never recovered as they lost a 9-3 regional game against Hemlock on Saturday, June 9 at Montrose.

The Indians surrendered three runs in each of the first two innings and yielded two more in the top of the third to fall behind, 8-0. Chesaning rallied for a pair of markers in the sixth and added a single run in the seventh, but it was a case of too-little, too-late for the Tribe.

"We were a little nervous the first three innings and it definitely made the difference in the outcome of the game," assessed first-year coach Devon Burzynski. "We kept fighting and earned a couple runs, but it wasn't enough."

Megan Buck collected two of the five Tribe hits and scored once. Denelle Schian took the loss on the mound, giving up 11 hits and one base on balls while striking out two. The Tribe defense committed three errors behind her.

Chesaning finishes the season with a 12-21 overall record.
