Local News PUBLISHED:
The township will pay for the remaining days when the officer isn't at the school. "The federal money for the program has expired and the city has elected not to participate," Emmendorfer said. "We're trying to make the department solvent." The board also discussed settlement of the Christian Faith Church sewer/water bill. Emmendorfer said approximately 10 years the church tied into the township water and sewer line, but inadvertently didn't pay the tap-in charges. "The church thought the permits were paid, but they weren't," Emmendorfer said. The bill has come to $7,775.26 in tap-in fees and back usage, and a payment plan is being set up. The church will have to pay 20 percent of the bill up front, but can finance the rest. Board members were treated to a taser demonstration to start the meeting, then authorized the purchse of two tasers for the police department. The board received its annual audit report and learned the township is on good solid sound footing. The board also voted to stop the practice of allowing the fire department association to use a tanker for filling swimming pools. Emmendorfer said the township insurance carrier and township attorney both recommended they stop that practice to protect the township from liability. |
