Working with the insurance company, city officials, Sascon Construction, engineers and other advisors, essentially two options evolved the first option the entire structure would be demolished and a flat site would be prepared for resale. The second option would enclose the structure. Basic heating and cooling and temporary lighting would be installed so reconstruction of the interior could begin.

The estimated costs for these two different options were less than $18,000. With the two options cost being so close the Players Board of Trustees chose to rebuild and was supported by the other functioning committee members when the decision was announced at Wednesday night's special meeting.

The Players signed a contract with Sascon Construction to be the contractors and manager of the project. Ted Hornus the Project manager from Sascon was on hand to answer any questions about phase one of the reconstruction and offer an insight of what Phase 2 would entail. Ted, Sascon and OCP will bring back the cultural center to the heart of the community where it provides entertainment, community involvement and commerce for the entire downtown. The overwhelming vocal support and encouragement from the community and local business owners has been wonderful.

Phase one of the project includes walls, ceiling, minimal heating & cooling and temporary lighting in the auditorium. Repairs to the Hoddy Building for the Performing Arts, which is located directly behind the Lebowsky Center will also be included. Part of that building is lease to Sunnyside Florists and repairs in that portion are also included.

The estimated cost for this phase is $477,000. Th Players have approximately $381,000 of insurance leaving an immediate need of $100,000.

Phase 2 of the project would include Lobby expansion, ground level restrooms, interior finishes, new front doors, carpeting, house lighting, complete house heating & cooling, stage floor, stage doors and dressing rooms. The estimated cost of this phase is $250,000

Phase Three would include sound & lights, which are covered in part by replacement insurance. Seating, rigging and stage curtains would also be included in this phase.

Over the next few weeks, months and years the Owosso Community Players will be dedicated to this project. Community involvement at all levels will be needed. One of the best ways to contribute and support the players with this project is to attend the performances and encourage others to do the same.

The next Owosso Community Players Production is Grease on July 27th, 28th, 29th, August 3rd and 4th. The shows will be held at the Owosso Middle School Auditorium located at 219 N. Water St. Downtown Owosso. Cost is $15 adults and $5 for high school and below. For more ticket info you can call our box office at 989-723-4003
