Myriad of family fun and food hits Main Street



NEW LOTHROP - The 18th annual New Lothrop Car Show will hit the streets of downtown New Lothrop on Saturday, July 28, 2007. Accompanying events also take place beginning Friday.

Sponsored by Gracie's Country Inn and the New Lothrop Downtown Development Authority (DDA), this year's show, and its events, will again offer plenty of family fun and excitement with games and contests for kids and adults, along with clowns, live entertainment, and lots of great food offerings.

The weekend kicks off on Friday with live music under the entertainment tents at Gracie's and the New Lothrop Tavern. The Gracie's tent will feature the band Dr. Rock from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m., while the Tavern's tent will host the band CK Sounds. Gracie's will also offer a seafood and prime rib buffet from 5 to 9 p.m.

Saturday kicks off with the sixth annual 5K run, which begins at 8 a.m. for kids to seniors. Moms with strollers are also welcome. Medals will be awarded for top finishers.

The Motorcycle Run 4 Fun begins with registration and breakfast buffet at Gracie's from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Registration for the car show runs from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Main Street.

Judging for the show will be conducted by entrants with ballots due by 2:30 p.m. Trophies will be presented at 3 p.m.

Two hundred dash plaques will be given with plaques being awarded to the top 50 vote getters of the show. Special awards will be presented for the Top Vote Getter and the Best of Show.

The vehicle receiving the most votes will be placed on next year's plaque and t-shirts.

Music will be provided by DJ Pat Dolan.

A Stereo & Muffler Rap, limited to ten participants, will be held at 2:30 p.m. with registration taking place at 12:30 p.m. A plaque will be presented to the first place winner.

Medals will be awarded for special events held throughout the day that include a pedal tractor pull for boys and girls ages three to 15 and an adult pull for men and women ages 16 and up, a coloring contest, a pizza eating contest, an ice cream eating contest, a watermelon seed spitting contest, and an ugly dog (in costume or out) contest.

There will also be a plethora of food choices available.

The Tavern will host a breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m.

The Hazelton Township Fire Department and the New Lothrop Lions Club will serve a pancake, French toast, and sausage breakfast beginning at 8 a.m. and a hot dog and French fry lunch beginning at 10 a.m.

The New Lothrop FFA will be selling brats and sauerkraut along with sloppy joes.

The Methodist Church chicken dinner will begin at 2 p.m.

Lunch and dinner buffets will also be served inside Gracies.

Saturday entertainment includes the Copper Ridge band in the Gracie's tent beginning at 8 p.m. with a BBQ rib dinner and raffle also being held. The Ditch Road band will perform in the Tavern tent from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

On Sunday the Gracie's entertainment tent will offer Polka music from 3 to 7 p.m. while in the restaurant a breakfast brunch will be available from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and a dinner buffet will be available from 1 to 7 p.m.

Village wide garage sales will also be running on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
