Leonard, a seventh grade student at Kuehn-Haven Middle School left this past Friday for the ten day camp being held in Massachusetts. While there, Leonard will have the opportunity to work with former American Idol finalists such as Kimber Lock, Bucky Covington, Jon Peter Lewis, Vonzell Zolomon, and Ace Young.

Camp attendees will be schooled in vocal performance, choreography, set building, music video production, and the basics of auditioning with the event culminating in a show for parents that will be featured on an episode of the Today Show.

"I'm so excited to get this opportunity and to get to meet the contestants I've seen on TV," stated Leonard. "I've watched American Idol since I was seven and I've never missed an episode. I love singing."

Leonard notes that her favorite Idol contestant is Chris Daughtery and that she prefers to sing country music along with show tunes.

Applications for the camp were essay based and judged by educators. Idol Camp is performing arts camp open to aspiring 12-15 year old singers throughout the United States and employs many former American Idol finalists as instructors.

Leonard is the 12-year-old daughter of Larry and Sadie Leonard.
