JUDY (BROWN) KURNIK
JUDY (BROWN) KURNIK

Chesaning
Age 65, passed away Monday, July 16, 2007, at Memorial Healthcare Center, Owosso. She was thankful for the life God allower her to live. To be a wife, mother and grandmother. A special blessing has been to be a writer and share the lives of dozens of people, for nearly eight years at the Owosso Argus Press and Michigan Magazine. She was born on January 17, 1942, in Flint, the daughter of Milford L. and Mary Catherine (Train) Brown. She graduated from Flint Central High School with the Class of 1960. She attended Flint Junior College and received a bachelor's degree in religiion from Midwestern Bible College in 1966.

She married Joseph W. Kurnik in Buffalo, N.Y., on October 3, 1970. He preceded her in death on September 26, 1995. She enjoyed sewing for several people and being a seamstress. She was Queen of the Red Hat Society, Chesaning Chapter.

Judy is survived by her children, Joe Kurnik and Aimee Sterk, of Grand Rapids, James and Nancy Kurnik, of Grand Blanc, Joshua and Kristine Kurnik, of Chesaning, and Johanna Kurnik, of Chesaning; grandchildren Emily Kurnik, Joshua Kurnik Jonathan Kurnik, Katherine Davis, Elizabeth Davis, Tyler Kurnik and soon-to-be Desmond Kurnik; a sister, Susan Couturier; a brother, William Brown; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of special friends. She was predeceased by her parents and her husband.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, July 19, 2007, at 3 p.m. at the Brady Center Wesleyan Church, Oakley. Burial was at Brady Township Cemetery, Brady Township. Memorials may be made to the family. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Corunna Chapel.

BERTHA A. MESERAULL

St. Charles
Age 73, passed away on Tuesday, July 17, 2007, at St. Mary's of Michigan Hospital, Saginaw. Bertha A. Thompson was born on September 30, 1933 in Gratiot County, the daughter of the late Perry and Pearl (Leiner) Thompson. She married Jack C. Meseraull on May 12, 1954. He preceded her in death on September 1, 1977. Church was a very important part of Bertha's life and she read the Bible daily. Bertha enjoyed gardening and spending time outdoors. She also liked to crochet and bake. Bertha took very good care of her family and the families she served as a nurse's aide at the Ashley Nursing Home and as a home health care aide.

Bertha is survived by seven children, Carrie and Dennis Wojdyla, of Tennessee, Kathleen and Joseph Olney, of Hubbardston, Robert and Vicky Meseraull, of Brant, Victor Meseraull, of Elsie, Allen Meseraull, of Elsie, Harold and Sheila Meseraull, of Flint, and Jacklin and Matthew Crowe, of Saginaw; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers and eight sisters. Besides her husband and her parents, Bertha was preceded in death by one brother.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 20, 2007, at the Walker-Martin Funeral Home, Chesaning. Rev. David Kimball officiated, with burial in the Brant Cemetery.

WILLIAM GEWIRTZ

Chesaning
Passed away on Wednesday July 18, 2007 at Genesys Regional Medical Center, Grand Blanc. Age 78 Years. He was born on May 22, l929 in Chesaning to the late Fred and Rose ( Bauman) Gewirtz. He married Sarah "Sally" Cowman on Nov. 25, 1950, she preceded him in death on August 15, l991. Bill was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic and had a very strong belief in his religion. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and member of the National City Bank board of directors for many years. He served his country during the Korean War. Bill owned and operated the Gewirtz Hardware store in Chesaning for many years and also served on the Chamber of Commerce board.

Surviving are his children, George(Shari) Gewirtz, Tim (Yasmin) Gewirtz, Mary Kay (Randy) Hoerner, Nancy (Rob) Rehmann, all of Chesaning, Mark Gewirtz & friend Noriko, of Princeton, NJ., Jean Gewirtz, at Home, Sally (Dave) Johnston, of Alma, Katie (Larry) Conklin, of Chesaning, Steve Gewirtz, of Lansing, Patty (Steve) Devota, of Chesaning, Kris (Jack) Hamilton, of Lansing. 20 Grandchildren, 2 Great Grandchildren and Sister, Dorothy (Harold) Weber. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and brothers and sisters, Barbara Schlachter, Donald Gewirtz, Mary Lou Chludil, Robert Gewirtz, Arthur Gewirtz, Eleanor Coleman and Gert Baker.

Funeral litury will be held on Monday,, July 23 at 11 a.m.. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cathoic Church. Rev. Fr. Wolfgang Streichardt will officate with burial in Resurrection Cemetery. Friends were able to call at the Walker-Martin Funeral Home, Chesaning on Saturday from 2 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 9 p.m. Scripture service was held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, with the Knights of Columbus Rosary at 8 p.m. Final prayers will be said at 10:15 a.m.. Monday at the funeral home. There will be no visitation at the church prior to service. Memorials are suggested to Our Lady School Endowment Fund or The missionary of Sr. Concepta Najjemba I.H.M.R
