Blueberry Fest to host Vietnam War era trucks

TROSE -- Two Vietnam War era cargo trucks will be on display at the Montrose Blueberry Festival on Friday, Aug. 17. The vehicles will arrive in town on Friday morning and will be located near the flea market area. Both vehicles are replicas of cargo trucks used during the Vietnam War. One truck, a 1955 Mack, was purchased out of North Carolina. Logan Werth, of Genesee, spent two and one-half years replicating "Uncle Meat," a five-ton gun truck that saw duty with the U.S. Army's 523rd Transportation Company. Original gun trucks were used for convoy security and perimeter duty. The second truck, a 1971 2.5 ton vehicle, a "deuce and a half," has also been painstakingly restored by Bob Rose, of Davison, to replicate a cargo truck from that era. Festival goers can meet Werth and Rose while having a chance to view these two spectacular military trucks. Less than a dozen remain in the United States.
