EARNEST WALTER BERRIDGE
Plymouth

Age 92, passed away Monday, August 6, 2007 at St. Mary Mercy Hospital in Livonia. Mr. Berridge was born on September 5, 1914 in St. Charles and was raised in Chesaning. He was a resident of Plymouth since 1936. Mr. Berridge received a bachelor of science degree from Michigan Normal College (now Eastern Michigan University) and attended Cleary College in Ypsilanti. He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mr. Berridge was a retired accountant and a former teacher in Plymouth, having taught fifth and sixth grade. As recently as this year he still did accounting work from his home. He was formerly a part-time accounting instructor at Cleary College in Ypsilanti for 20 years. He was an active member of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Plymouth, where he was a member of the retiree group. He was also a member of VFW Mayflower Post 6695 in Plymouth. He loved reading and talk shows, which kept him up on federal, state and local politics. Mr. Berridge also enjoyed watching sports on TV, especially football. Mr. Berridge is survived by his children, Kathleen Ann Berridge and David J. Berridge, and his grandsons, Brandon and Christopher Berridge. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene, in 1996, and by his three brothers. Funeral services were held on Thursday, August 9, 2007, at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1343 Penniman St., Plymouth. Memorials may be made to St. Peter's Lutheran Church. TOMMY "TOM" L. GRIFFIN

Age 69, passed away on Tuesday, August 7, 2007, at the Avalon Hospice, Flint. He was born on February 6, 1938 in Burton, the son of the late Elmer and Dola (Walterhouse) Griffin. He married Dottie Birchmeier on February 1, 1964, and she survives him. Tom retired from General Motors. Surviving besides his wife, Dottie, are five children, Sheila (Ron) Birchmeier, of Corunna, Thomas (Amy) Griffin, of Rochester Hills, Robert (Valerie) Griffin, of New Lothrop, Scott (Beth) Griffin, of Oakley, and Randy (Jennifer) Griffin, of Montrose; 12 grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Lois Griffin, of Florida, and Karen Griffin, of Mt. Morris; father-in-law, Walter Birchmeier; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Lyle (Pam) Birchmeier, Art (Kathy) Birchmeier, Don (Julie) Birchmeier, all of New Lothrop, Roger (Eva) Birchmeier, of Chesaning, Sue (Bob) Edwards, of Owosso, Linda (Ed) Pincik, of Corunna, Willo Birchmeier, of New Lothrop, and a very special nephews, David (Carolyn) Hritz, of Davison. Tom was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Bob and Gary, one sister, Jean (Bill) Hritz, his mother-in-law, Marguerite Birchmeier, and brother-in-law, David Birchmeier. Age 77, passed away on Monday, August 6, 2007 at Sparrow Hospital, Lansing. She was born on April 18, 1930, in Elsie, the daughter of the late Leonard and Luella (Janes) Schmidtfranz. She married Kennard Patterson on May 29, 1948, and he preceded her in death on August 18, 2003. She was a member of the Oakley Full Gospel Church. She is survived by her children, Dianne (Ronnie) Moore, of Chesaning, Linda (William) Mayer, of Brant, Larry (Lynne) Patterson, of St. Johns, Douglas Patterson, of Harrison, Raymond (Sandy) Patterson, of Merrill, and Russell (Angie) Patterson, of Elsie; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; a sister, Viola Durbin, of Ovid; a brother, Wayne (Ethel) Schmidtfranz, of Owosso; and sisters-in-law, Virginia Schmidtfranz, of Owosso, and Shirley Schmidtfranz, of Owosso. She was predeceased by three brothers, Delmar, Leonard and Glen Schmidtfranz. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 11, 2007, at the Walker-Martin Funeral Home, Chesaning. Rev. Age 67, passed away on Monday morning, August 6, 2007 at home. She was born on June 13, 1940 in New Baltimore, the daughter of the late Robert L. and Theresa (Sepsey) Steele. She married Keith Brown on February 10, 1961, and he survives her. Sally leaves the world a far better please because of her courage, kindness and her boundless love. Her whole life revolved around her family, whom she loved dearly. She is survived by her husband, Keith; five children, Brett (Renee) Brown, of Owosso, Blake Brown, of Owosso, Brent (Barbara) Brown, of Merrill, Blaine (Christina Tyler) Brown, of St. Charles, Burke (Dawn) Brown, of Midland; 11 grandchildren, Alex, Alyssa, AnnaLee, Shane, Bryce, Chelsea, Cailey, Brandon, Connor, Elizabeth and Emma; sisters and brothers, Bob (Marilyn) Steele, Terri (Bob) Gleam, Richard (Donna) Steele, Steven (Kay) Steele, Dave (Pat) Steele, Bill (Patty) Steele and Lynn Galbraith; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Sally was predeceased by one brother, Michael Steele. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 9, 2007, at Walker-Martin Funeral Home, Chesaning. Rev. ANTHONY P. HAJEK

Age 93, passed away Wednesday, August 8, 2007, at Memorial Healthcare Center, Owosso. He was born on March 17, 1914 in Leetsdale, Penn., the son of Joseph and Marie (Hnatek) Hajek. He married Mildred Splaney in 1935. She passed away in October, 1997. He then married his current wife, Shirley. Anthony was a member of the Masonic Lodge Genesee 174, Elf Khurafeh Shrine Temple and the Scottish Rite Consistory of Bay City. He enjoyed polka music and talking with people. He was liked by everyone and he never met a stranger. Anthony is survived by his wife, Shirley; three children, Shirley and George Knight, of Oscoda, Carole Anderson, of Flushing, and Edward and Veronica Hajek, fo Mancelona; five granchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one brother, Steve and Dolores Hajek, of Grand Blanc. Besides his parents and his first wife, Mildred, Anthony was preceded in death by two brothers, Joe Hajek and John Hajek, two sisters, Katherine Chabica and Mary Chmelar, and one son-in-law, Roy Anderson. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m on Saturday, August 11, 2007 at Whelpley-Martin Funeral Home in New Lothrop. Rev. Paul Amstutz officiated, with burial in Elmwood Cemetery. A devout family man and friend who found great joy in helping others, Carl passed away at his home Wednesday evening, August 8, 2007, following a lengthy illness. He was 57. Carl was born April 18, 1950, the son on Andy and Christine (Krupp) Vrable. He retired following 30 years of service at G.M. V-8 in Flint; he was a member of Local #659. Carl is survived by his wife of 35 years, Yvonne (Krupp) Vrable; his mother; three children and their spouses: Brian (Tori) Vrable, Saginaw; Shawn (Jim) Richardson, Owosso; Meghan (Leif) Maxwell, Freeland; 5 grandchildren and 1 on the way; his mother and father in law, Peter and Jean Krupp, New Lothrop; 12 brothers and sisters: Arnold and Janet Vrable, Oakley, Sally and Frank Reiber, Chesaning, Janet and Don Amman, Chesaning, Jim and Ellie Vrable, Chesaning, Joyce and Ron Amman, Chesaning, Bob and Marlene Vrable, Chesaning, Ange and Norm Angst, Chesaning, Roger and Lois Vrable, Chesaning, Ralph and Marty Vrable, Montrose, Alice and Dave Pappenheimer, Chesaning, Betty and Rog Hollenback, Chesaning, and Sheila and Phil Giesken, Chesaning; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law: Debbie Krupp, Davison, Shelley Wyant, Flushing, and Denise and Clark Bentley, Muskegon; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
