Local News PUBLISHED:
The congregation will kick off its 40-day program with a celebration event from 7 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, September 15 in the church fellowship hall. "A group of committed volunteers has made 40 Days of Purpose possible in Chesaning," said Rev. Dr. Sherry Parker, Trinity's pastor. "I trust that this campaign will have a significant impact on hearts and minds. Everyone is invited to participate. People do not need to be members of Trinity or of any church. It's not too late to sign up!" At the center of the campaign is the best-selling hardback book in American history, according to Publisher's Weekly. The Purpose Driven Life has sold more than 30 million copies since the book's release in 2002. The book's author, Rick Warren, is senior pastor of one of America's largest churches, Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, Calif. Following its 40 Days of Purpose campaign, Saddleback Church baptized 671 new believers, added almost 1,200 new members, and increased average attendance by 2,000. During the 40 Days of Purpose campaign at Trinity, the truths about God's five purposes for people - worship, fellowship, discipleship, ministry, and evangelism - will be communicated repeatedly through a weekly message by the church's pastor, Rev. Dr. Sherry Parker, weekly small group meetings, and a weekly Scripture memory verse for both children and adults. "People will hear about God's purposes for their lives in many different formats," Parker said. "People long for meaning in their lives, a higher purpose than personal peace and comfort. The book, The Purpose Driven Life, begins 'It's not about you.' Over 40 days in September and October, we will explore what higher purpose God intends for our lives." Trinity United Methodist Church is located at 1629 W. Brady Rd. (M-57) in Chesaning.
