Local News PUBLISHED:
Murphy, a long-time volunteer with the festival, has been named to the four-member Chesaning Showboat Music Festival Committee. She joins 2008 Chairperson Denise Ebenhoeh and Phil Giesken. The fourth member of the committee has not yet been selected. Some of Murphy's recent involvement with the festival includes serving on the Parade Committee and helping to initiate sponsorships with radio stations and in the hospitality tent. As a youth, in addition to being a member of the Queen's Court, she also participated in the amateur portion of Showboat. "We are very excited to have Marcia join us. She is extremely hard working and very energetic. She has done such a wonderful job with the parade committee and anyone who has worked with her knows how much energy and enthusiasm she puts into everything she does," stated Ebenhoeh. Marcia noted she is excited about working on the all-new Showboat Music Festival Committee with Denise, Phil, and the entire community to continue directing the festival in a positive light and generate entertainment for all ages. "I am so honored that they have the confidence in me to think I would be an asset to the committee," Murphy stated. "I am really looking forward to serving in this capacity. Showboat has been through some tough years but the positive changes are helping and we can build on that and move forward." Murphy and her husband, Tim, reside in Chesaning with their two children, Taylor, 9, and Eddie, 7. She holds a B.A in Broadcast Media and Marketing from Western Michigan University. She is employed at the Our Lady Parish School as a teacher's assistant in the preschool classroom. She has also been involved in the community coaching Chesaning Parks and Rec softball and soccer teams, and is currently coaching the COHO swim club along with Gary Davenport and Patty Escamilla. Along with being involved in her community, Murphy enjoys her family, golfing, camping and watching good movies.
