Memorial transforms health care with new Diagnostic Center

OWOSSO Patient care has reached a new dimension at Memorial Healthcare of Owosso. With the opening of its new Diagnostic Center, Memorial, in keeping with its "Most Wired" status of excellence is transforming the patient experience and reshaping how health care services are delivered using the latest in cutting edge technology to expedite, enhance, and streamline patient visits through use of the nation's most advanced patient tracking and staff-to-staff communication technologies.

The sole purpose of the new center is to provide services in an environment that respects the patients overall health, time, and privacy. "We want to provide an outpatient center where patients can receive a multitude of services in one site with convenient access outside of the hospital setting," noted Memorial Healthcare President and CEO Cheryl Peterson. "We are using the latest in technology to enhance the efficiency of each patient's visit."

Upon entering the center, patients utilize a desktop kiosk to register. With the swipe of a card, or a touch to the keypad, the patient is entered into the powerful patient tracking system known as the HC-Integrator, which identifies each phase of the patient's visit including time of arrival, waiting time, services needed, and patient location in the building at all times.

Screens located throughout the center allow staff members to readily identify a patient's location at a single glance and know exactly when patients are ready to receive services. The system allows staff members throughout the clinic to keep track of who is waiting, and for what services. Through this system, patients can be routed to a department that is not busy and then continue to other departments as they become unconjested, eliminating the old wait in line procedure. Care at the new center is also optimized through the use of the Vocera Communication System which allows staff to communicate with each other at the touch of a button on a device worn about the neck. Patient privacy is also an important part of the new center. Cubicles that are separated from the waiting room allow for private communication with staff during the registration process and at the end of a visit. The center also includes an all-new Women's Center that is set apart from the main patient flow allowing for the privacy of women receiving services such as mammograms, ultrasounds, and x-rays. Other services offered at the center include a walk-in lab and x-ray, occupational medicine, anti-coagulation services, stereotactic biopsy, CT Scan, and bone density. The new Diagnostic Center is located at 100 Healthpark Drive, in the Memorial Healthpark on North M-52 one mile North of the M-21/M-52 junction. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. For information or to schedule an appointment call the center at 729-6422.
