Good Shepherd to break ground on parish life center MONTROSE -- Good Shepherd Parish, 400 N. Saginaw St., announces plans for its groundbreaking ceremony on a new parish life center at 11 a.m. today, Sunday, Sept. 30. After 10 years of saving and the start of a successful capital campaign kickoff in early June, the community of Good Shepherd is ready to begin construction on its new 7,670 sq. foot facility. The new space will provide seven classrooms, an activity center that will accommodate 252 people, two offices, a parish meeting room, a kitchen and pantry area, storage and restrooms. The total cost of the project is $875,000. Sr. Josephine McNamara, pastoral coordinator at the parish, thanks Jennings Memorial Foundation for its generous and timely matching grant of $75,000 to help with the building project. John Wendling, from the Jennings Memorial Foundation will be on hand at the ground breaking event along with research and planning committee members, fund-raising committee members, local parishioners and other supporters.
Mt. Sinai Lutheran Church to celebrate 40th anniversary MONTROSE -- Mt. Sinai Lutheran Church, 11356 Seymour Road, Montrose, will celebrate its 40th anniversary as a congregation on Sunday, Oct. 7. There will be a special service at 4 p.m., with a dinner following. The public is invited. The guest speaker is Rev. Tim Ehlers of Christ Lutheran Church, Oakley. Mt. Sinai held its first service on Sept. 24, 1967. It met at various temporary locations in Montrose before building its current church in 1970. Mt. Sinai has had six pastors since then. Its current pastor, Rev. Allen Lindke, arrived in 1997. Mt. Sinai is a member of the Wisconsin Ev. Lutheran Synod.
