GARY L. DAVENPORT

Chesaning

Age 64, passed away on Thursday morning, September 28, 2007, at home. He was born on January 18, 1943 in Flint, the son of Millard and Marie (Stevens) Davenport. He married Mary Beth Krause on June 1, 1963, and she survives him. Gary was instrumental in promoting and forming many of the Chesaning Union Schools swimming pool programs. His life revolved around the Chesaning Middle School pool. He coached and revived the school swimming club, and he taught life guard classes. He was the current pool manager and life guard. Gary was a member of the Chesaning Conservation Club. He was an avid trap shooter and member of the Cowboy Action Shooting Club. He also raised and showed horses. He had also been active with the Chesaning Valley Ambulance for many years. He retired from Saginaw Steering Gear in 1989. Surviving are his wife, Mary Beth; two daughters, Jerilyn (Kevin) Hopper, of Lincoln, Neb., and Pattie (Louie) Escamilla, of Chesaning; grandchildren, Morgan, Mikel, Ryann, Angus, Drake, Amanda, Armando and Mateo; sister- and brothers-in-law, Dorene and Charles McKenna, of St. Louis, Mo., and Roland Krause, of Harbor Springs; five nieces and nephews; and special friends, Don Dinninger, Brad Alcorn and Tom Dugalech. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorial services will be held on Monday, October 1, 2007, at 1 p.m. at the Walker-Martin Funeral Home, Chesaning. The family will receive visitors from 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, September 30, 2007 at the funeral home, and after noon on Monday. Cremation has taken place.
