Chesaning Equestrian Club reins in District 11 championship

Five member team headed to Regional this weekend

CHESANING Five members of the Chesaning High School Equestrian Club are headed to Regional competition this weekend after reining in the District 11, Class C championship. This will be the first-ever Regional competition for Chesaning in the ten-year history of the club, an exceptional feat due to the fact that team members have significantly less experience than their competitors. "This is an exceptional group of young ladies," stated Coach John Mishler. "Making it to Regional with their limited experience is quite an accomplishment and something to be very proud of." Mishler noted that most high school competitors have dozens of shows under their belts through 4H and other horse programs but his members all started competing with the Chesaning Club as high schoolers. The five member team coFive member team headed to Regional this weekend By DEB MILLER The Tri-County Citizen nsists of senior Andrea Entrekin who has only 15 shows under her belt, juniors Amanda Oesterreicher, Megan Chludil, and Kelly Hurst who have ten shows each under their belts, and freshman Chelsea Reiber who has only competed in five shows. Chesaning will compete in several classes of Speed, Western, Saddle Seat, and Hunt Seat during the competition.

Ram kickers rally to tie Devils, 3-3

Hickmott reaches record 1000-save plateau

MONTROSE On a day when their keeper added to his state-record saves total by passing the 1000-save plateau, Montrose's varsity soccer team rallied from two goals down to salvage a 3-3 tie against GAC-rival Lake Fenton. Last Tuesday's comeback was highlighted by Corky Hickmott's 14 saves in goal, which ran his record total to 1009 during his four-year career in net. "We depend on our keeper a lot and Corky always gives us his best effort," commented Ram Coach Chet Ptasnik. "I also believe there's a lot to be said about a team that comes from behind to get back into a game. You have to keep your head into the game, stay focused on what you are doing, and that, to me, is character." Down 2-0, Kyle Colby converted an assist from Brad Smith with 10 minutes remaining in the first half. Five minutes later, the Rams tied the game on a breakaway goal by Scott Snyder to take a 2-2 tie into intermission. After yielding an early goal in the second half, Montrose earned the tie when Smith scored off an assist from Snyder with just 12 minutes left in the game. The tie gives Montrose a 1-4-1 mark in the GAC and an overall ledger of 3-8-3.
