The Bulldogs got things going early, scoring at the 9:11 mark of the first quarter on a 24 yard run by senior quarterback Brian Halas. Marshall Davenport ran in the conversion for the 8-0 lead.

Then with 4:45 left in the first, senior back Ryan Humpert broke free on a 72 yard TD scamper. Halas hit Dugan Roosa for the two-point conversion to make it 16-0.

Humpert notched his second score at 11:30 of the second on a 25 yard run.

The two-point pass failed.

Valley Lutheran then put together a drive, marching to the St. Charles one yard line before the Bulldogs stopped them. Three plays later, Halas broke free for a 94 yard touchdown run. M. Davenport ran in the conversion.

With 4:08 left in the half, Humpert scored his third TD on a 15 yard run.

Brandon Menzel ran in the conversion, making it 38-0.

At the 2:44 mark of the second, the Chargers got on the board on a 39 yard pass from quarterback Phil Stauffer to Garrick Haynes. Stauffer's pass to Brent Bhirdo made it 38-8.

Humpert then took the resulting kickoff and returned it to the Charger one yard line. Four plays later, with six ticks left in the half, Roosa scored on a one yard run. The two-point attempt failed and the "Dawgs" took a 46-8 lead into the locker room for the half.

After a scoreless third quarter, the Chargers scored again at 10:42 of the fourth on a one yard run by Stauffer. Kyle Kaufmann kicked the PAT to cut the lead to 46-15.

Then with 6;43 left in the game, Valley Lutheran's Scott Thompson broke free on an 80 yard touchdown run. Stauffer's pass to Ryan Holcomb for the two-point play made it 46-23.

With the Bulldog starters back on the field, M. Davenport plunged in from five yards out with 5:08 left. Halas then connected with Davenport on the two-point pass for the 52-23 final.

The Bulldogs finished the night with no passing yards, but a whopping 440 rushing yards.

Humpert had seven carries for 160 yards and three TDs. Halas had four carries for 141 yards and two TDs. M. Davenport had nine carries for 48 yards and a score. The trio combined for 349 of the Bulldogs' 440 rushing yards.

Chesaning gridders fall to Freeland, 14-12

CHESANING -- Coming off a tough road trip with losses to Bullock Creek and Alma, the Chesaning varsity football team was hoping to get back to its winning ways. Instead, the Tribe dropped a 14-12 contest to upstart Freeland that left the Indians fighting to keep their playoff hopes alive.

The scrappy Falcons got on the board first, after a Chesaning drive stalled.

The Indians had first-and-goal inside the Freeland 10 yard line, and ended up punting. The Falcons then marched down the field, scoring at 3:41 on a six yard run by Matt Ruhlman. The two-point conversion was a pass from Justin Krenzke to Levi King.

The Tribe responded, scoring on a 10 yard run by Chad Reiber at 2:42 of the first. The two-point pass attempt failed.

At 3:19 of the second, the Indians took the lead when Justin Sweeney intercepted a Falcon pass on his own five yard line and returned it 95 yards for the touchdown. The two-point pass attempt failed, but the Indians led 12-8 at the intermission.

Chesaning also had a late drive, in the closing minute of the half, but stalled just short of the goal line as time ran out.

In the third quarter, after Freeland recovered a Chesaning fumble on the Indians opening drive of the half, Steven Graebner dove in from a yard out with 7:14 left. The two-point pass attempt failed, making it 14-12 for the final.

Chesaning's offense sputtered in the contest. The Indians had 22 rushes for

122 yards, and added another 68 yards on 7 of 24 passing for 190 yards of total offense.

Quarterback Joe Bitterman picked up 58 yards in 11 carries to lead the rushing attack. Sweeney had four receptions for 50 yards.

The Falcons ran over the Tribe, picking up 219 yards in 61 attempts, while adding another 44 through the air on 3 of 8 passing, for a total of 263 yards of offense. They also gave up three interceptions.

David Hawes hauled down 19 tackles for the Indians. Bitterman and Mike Rowe had 15 tackles each. Troy Weisenberger, Sweeney and Bitterman each had an interception.

The loss drops the Indians to 3-3 in the Tri-Valley Conference Central Division, and 4-3 overall. The Falcons pick up their second conference win, and improve to 3-4 on the year.

The Tribe closes out the TVC Central season this Friday with a trip to Ovid-Elsie. The Marauders are 4-2 and fresh off an overtime loss to league-leading Alma.
