Obituaries PUBLISHED:
Age 22, passed away September 30, 2007 in Greeley, Colo., due to complications from diabetes. He was born on May 19, 1985 and was raised in Strasburg, Colo. Adam graduated from Strasburg High School in 2003 and was a senior at the University of Northern Colorado, working on a degree in secondary education, with an emphasis in history. He enjoyed participating in and attending athletic events, and was engaged to Mandy Dzintars, of Rapid City, S.D. Adam lived life the way it was supposed to be despite his challenges with childhood diabetes. Adam was the son of Mark and Janet Prieur and a brother to his younger sister, Laura, of Strasburg, and his elder sister, Sarah, and her fiancÈ, John Emmerich, of Littleton, Colo. He was the grandson of Erwin and Catherine Thiel, of Chesaning. He leaves aunts and uncles Greg (Linda) Thiel, of Marquette, Susan (Dale) Stevens, of Chesaning, Kathy (James) Brown, of Oakley, Sr. Linda Thiel OP, of Grand Rapids, Helen (Dale) Gengler, of Chesaning, David (Kris) Prieur, of Pullman, Wash., Ann (Jerry) Gengler, of Chesaning, Michael (Reba) Prieur, of Little Rock, Ark., Emily Duby and friend Bob Czerwinski, of Saginaw, Felix (Mary) Prieur, of Herndon, Va., and Evelyn (Rich) Reinke, of St. Charles; and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Elmer and Cecilia Prieur, of Chesaning. A celebration of his life and Mass was held at Our Lady of the Plains Catholic Church in Byers on October 5, 2007, with many family members and friends attending. Adam had good friends who told of his good deeds and helpfulness to his friends and strangers alike. In loving memory a college scholarship has been established in Adam's name. MAX L. O'ROURKE Chesaning Age 75, passed away suddenly Monday evening, October 22, 2007 at the Memorial Healthcare Center, Owosso. He was born on April 12, 1932 in Chesaning, the son of the late Charles and Marion (Richards) O'Rourke. He was a graduate of Central Michgian University. He started teaching in 1963 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic School in Chesaning. He transferred to St. Paul Catholic School in Owosso in the early 1970s where he taught and eventually became principal for 14 years. He retired in 1994. He was on the Chesaning library board and the Chesaning Area United Appeal board. Those left to mourn him include his wife, Donna (Duguid); his three sons and their spouses, Michael (Karen) O'Rourke, of Farmington, Timothy (Gloria) O'Rourke, of Midland, and Patrick (Krista) O'Rourke, of Madison, Wisc.; four grandchildren; his sister, Ruth Crofoot, of Gladwin, and his brother, Charles O'Rourke, of Beaverton. Funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday, October 26, 2007 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Chesaning. Cremation followed. MAXINE M. (GENGLER) MILLER Chesaning Age 88, passed away on Monday morning, October 22, 2007 at the Covenant Harrison Medical Center, Saginaw. She was born on September 14, 1919, in Chesaning, the daughter of Lynne and Lelah (Holdridge) Bishop. She was married to Alphonse Gengler in 1938, and he preceded her in death in 1976. She then married Lawrence Miller in 1978, and he has also preceded her in death. She was a member of the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, and the Altar Society and Daughters of Isabella. She loved playing cards and spending time with her family. She was the current Chesaning Nursing Care Center Showboat Parade queen. She is survived by her daughter, Diane (Donald) Hart, of Flushing; two grandchildren, Jennifer (Martyn) Fanko, of Columbus, Ohio, and Jocelyn (Sean) Tapia, of Pueblo, Colo.; seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Ken (Donna) Urbain, of St. Charles, Lynne (Darlene) Bishop, of Florida; sisters-in-law, Maxine Bishop, of Midland, and Leona Rivett, of Chesaning; and many nieces and nephews, step-children and other family and friends. She was preceded in death by a son, John Gengler, and brothers, Dale Bishop and Eugene Rivett. Funeral liturgy was held on Wednesday, October 24, 2007, at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Chesaning. Memorials are suggested to the Chesaning Nursing Care Center. MICHAEL BRADFORD Chesaning Age 58, passed away early Sunday morning, October 21, 2007 at his home after a short illness. He was born on July 14, 1949 in Owosso, the son of James M. and Betty (White) Bradford. Mike was a self-employed salesman. He served seven years in the National Guard. He is survived by his mother, and his two children, Joelle (David) Wojcik, of Washington Township, and Andrew Bradford, of Chesaning. He was preceded in death by his father in December, 2006. Cremation has taken place. No services are planned at this time.
RUTH MARIE WILLOUGHBY Chesaning Age 80, passed way Monday, October 22, 2007, at her home. She was born on August 31, 1927 in Clare, the daughter of Orvall Lloyd and Aleta Marie (Detwiler) Smith. She graduated from Chesaning High School in the Class of 1945, and lived in the Hemlock and Chesaning areas for most of her life. She married Roy Willoughby on May 15, 1948 at the Chapin United Methodist Church in Chapin. She had worked for Universal Electric in Owosso. Ruth loved to take wedding photos and work with her husband running Willoughby Photography for 45 years. She was a Friend of Elsie United Methodist Church. Ruth is survived by her husband, Roy; two sisters, Amy Lou Brandt, of Saginaw, and Mary Eunice and Earl Weeden, of Else. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Lynn Leroy Smith. Funeral services were held Thursday, October 25, 2007, at the Elsie United Methodist Church, Elsie. Pastor Edwin Snook officiated, with burial at Cherry Grove Cemetery, Clare. LORETTA M. GAGE Chesaning Age 97, beloved mother and grandmother passed away Friday, October 19, 2007 at the Chesaning Nursing Care Center. Loretta was born on May 18, 1910 in Chesaning, the daughter of the late Frederick and Laura Princinsky. She was married to Rexall C. Gage in St. Charles on August 24, 1929. He preceded her in death on March 8, 1970. Loretta lived for a time in Dallas, Texas, Florida and Long Beach, Calif., before returning to Michigan, residing in Saginaw for many years. She was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. She is survived by a son, Dale and Loretta Gage, of Huntington Beach, Calif., a daughter, Audrey Kanuszewski, of Saginaw; 14 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty Odenbaugh, of Chesaning; a brother, Arthur Princinsky, of Saginaw; and several nieces and nephews. Lorettas was also predeceased by a son, William, in 1941, three brothers, William, Dale and Donald Princinsky, and a son-in-law, Anthony Kanuszewski. Mass of Christian burial will take place at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 29, 2007 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Chesaning. Rev. Fr. Richard Bokinskie will officiate, with burial in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Chesaning. Friends may call at the Walker-Martin Funeral Home in Chesaning on Sunday, October 28, 2007, where family will be present from 4 to 8 p.m. A Vigil for Loretta will take place at 7 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. FRANCES M. DUNCAN Owosso Age 86, passed away Wednesday, October 24, 2007 at the Oliver Woods Retirement Village. Frances M. McDonald was born on July 9, 1921 in Vienna Township, the daughter of the late Alexander and Adella (Young) McDonald. She graduated from Chesaning High School in 1938. She moved to New York City and married Thomas I. Duncan on March 28, 1942. He preceded her in death. They resided in Englewood, N.J. and the South Nyack, N.Y. area, and were both employed in New York City's Manhattan business district. Frances is survived by one sister, Christy Merrick, of California; a brother, Alex McDonald, of Ovid; a sister-in-law, Frances Lane, of Chesaning; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and her husband, Frances was preceded in death by a brother, Fred Lane, and two sisters, Ann (Lane) Beckman and Florence Lane. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 27, 2007, at Walker-Martin Funeral Home, Chesaning. Diane Hungerford officiated.
